I love web video. I’m just going to be very upfront about that. My wife and I cancelled cable television, and we get all of our “TV” fixes from Internet video from sources such as Hulu.com, Netflix Streaming, Amazon.com Streaming, not to mention each of the content providers own webpages (NBC.com, CBS.com, etc.). I have never regretted doing this, and it is extremely liberating. Maybe sometime I’ll explain better on how to cut the ties to cable/satellite television.

I am much more of a web video consumer than producer/creator, but mainly because I rarely have much in my life that I want to share. I do, however, have my own YouTube channel (with a whopping twelve videos, dating back to 2007). I have done regular video edits (from camera footage, etc.), uploads from cell phone video, and even a couple of “machinima” videos.

I do believe that web video is an extremely useful (though dangerous) tool to use in the classroom. I say dangerous because of how easy it is to break copyright laws. Just because it’s on the Internet doesn’t mean you can show it to a classroom of students without permission. I understand that teachers usually get leeway when it comes to that sort of thing, but rights reserved are rights reserved.

I will leave you with my first “real” attempt at a machinima video, one that I made using World of Warcraft in 2007 to commemorate my character’s third Hallow’s End celebration (Halloween). Enjoy!
