I’m really starting to love these 23 Things Kansas activities, because I’m being introduced to things that I may not have sought out on my own otherwise. Today’s activity—Library Thing, Etc.—is the perfect example of that. I decided to sign up for an account with Shelfari.com, since it is owned by Amazon.com (huge fan!). I’ve been buying online from Amazon.com since 1996, and it’s almost like my Wal-Mart.

Creating a login with Shelfari was very easy, and you just link it to your Amazon.com username and it can search your purchase history (if you want it to) to find books to import into your Shelfari profile. There were about 28 different books that I had it import (a lot of my purchases were just musical scores, so I chose not to import those).

Beyond the ones that it imported, I added a couple manually by searching, and it was very quick and easy to find and add books. The options when adding/editing a book also have options to track when you purchased the book (or IF you purchased it), how much you paid, whether it is currently on loan to a friend, keyword tags, etc. A lot of nice features that an avid reader would really love. Sadly, I’m not much of a reader, though I’ve read more books in the one year since I bought my iPad than I have probably read in the past 5-10 years combined.

Here’s my public profile on Shelfari. Feel free to add me as a friend, for what it’s worth. I have pretty unique/geeky taste in books, so I likely won’t get many bookclub invites. 🙂
